
Mongezi Ntukwana
BIOGRAPHY
Mongezi Ntukwana is a Wits University, Honours graduate in Theatre and Performance majoring in Performance and Cultural Policy Management.
In 2011 he enrolled at the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy, thus growing his love for theatre. In 2018 he participated in a part-time course at the Market Theatre Laboratory in Newtown under the guidance of Monageng “Vice” Motshabi.
In early 2019 he performed in two productions at the Orientation Week Festival at Wits University. He performed in a play called Vuka Machel written by Mncedisi Shabangu and directed by Awande Dube. The second play was titled Two Fingers at Work written and Directed by Kamo Theledi.
From the 22nd to the 26th of May 2019 he performed in a musical titled “uNosilimela” originally written by the legendary Credo Vusamazulu Mutwa. The adaptation was directed by the fearsome Wits Theatre duo of Kgafela Oa Magogodi and Prince Lamla.
Mongezi Ntukwana has represented the Wits Theatre quite profoundly as in July 2019 he performed in a production titled “Two Can Play” at the National Arts Festival in Makhanda under the banner of the Wits Theatre and Performance department.
He has written two plays namely “Asambe Ke” and “Yangthola”. “Asambe Ke” was showcased at the Orientation Week Festival at Wits University in January 2020. “Yangthola” was chosen to be used as exam material for first year students at the Market Theatre Laboratory in November 2019.
Mongezi was also casted as a lead actor for an SABC2 advert titled “When Summer Calls” which aired from December 2019 until February 2020.
In his first semester of 2019 he did a traineeship at the Wits Origins Centre where he learnt many skills such as being a tour guide and teaching young children about archaeology. In his second semester of 2019 he completed his traineeship at the Wits Art Museum where he participated in various activities such as compiling a report back for funding, being part of student staff for an exhibition and helping curate an exhibition different exhibition. In the beginning of 2021, he signed to Talent ETC, a casting agency he is currently represented by. In 2022 he joined “KwaSha! Theatre Company”, an affiliate operating under the wing of the prestigious Market Theatre.
